• a16z said out loud that "imposing the cost of actual or potential copyright liability on the creators of AI models will either kill or significantly hamper their development". Well fuck, if the AI folk can't turn a buck because copyright laws get in the way, let's get rid of copyright! Do it you motherfuckers, I dare you.
• Franklin Antonio, a co-founder of Qualcomm, has bequeathed US$200m to the SETI Institute. That cash helps SETI "continue its pursuit of one of the biggest and most profound questions in all of science, a question as old as humanity itself – are we alone in the universe?"
• Sam Houser let loose via Rockstar's X account that they will drop a trailer for GTA VI in early December. Rumours reckon "the new game is expected to feature the series' first female protagonist" and will be "set in a fictionalised version of Miami, just like 2002's GTA: Vice City".
• Counterpoint Research says that smartphone shipments in the USA dropped 19% YoY for Q3 2023. One analyst reckons "improved durability with stronger build quality, less impressive upgrades among new smartphone releases, and an uncertain macroeconomic environment have all contributed to the malaise we are seeing in the US smartphone market". Can confirm - I'm still using an iPhone 13 Pro and I love buying new iPhones.
